Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is yoga?

That’s a hard question to answer in a FAQ page - over time you’ll be able to define that for yourself. But until then, I’ll share with you my definition.

Yoga is the union of the mind, body, and spirit. It’s finding the pockets of peace within discomfort. It’s meeting yourself where you’re at with intention and self-love. It’s remembering to breathe.

Yoga is a loooong standing practice that has been practiced by many humans before you and me and will be practiced by many after.

Yoga is belonging.

What should I bring?

Please bring a mat, towel, or blanket to practice on.

Other props include blocks, a strap (or scarf!), and a blanket. There are a limited number of props available to borrow.

Water is always a good idea as is anything that will make you more comfy!

Is Planetarium Yoga right for the kid in my life?

Most likely yes.

We welcome kids (ages 8+) and an adult in their life to come practice yoga together. Children will not be permitted to attend class without an adult, this helps ensure a safe environment for all and helps you spend quality time together.

The objective of yoga is to accept people no matter where they are in their journeys. Brittany is no stranger to childhood trauma and behavior issues, if the kid in your life is going through something specific that you would like to share, there will be an opportunity to do so when signing up.

Anxiety and depression is at an all time high amongst young people today and yoga has been shown to help. There is a huge misconception that to do yoga one must first be zen or be able to sit still for long periods of time.

Don’t worry, your kid doesn’t have to sit still long in these classes. Plus with a planetarium show waiting for them at the end, they may be a little more inclined to follow along.

Classes will have slow-moving (read: not distracting) visuals during the class followed by an educational planetarium show at the end.

The Living Arts and Science Center has a copious amount of resources and events for kids of all ages, be sure to check them out over on lasclex.org

Why yoga for Kids and “their adult”?

At Planetarium Yoga, we're dedicated to inclusivity, welcoming all family types and relationships. Our classes offer a unique opportunity for children and their important adults—whether parents, grandparents, guardians, or mentors—to practice yoga and mindfulness together. This shared experience fosters deeper bonds, promotes relaxation, and enhances overall well-being. Inspired by my own upbringing primarily with my stepmom, I believe in creating a supportive environment where every family can connect and grow through yoga.

I’m not flexible, can I do yoga?

OF COURSE! Yes, yes, yes.

One of the best quotes is “yoga isn’t about touching your toes, it’s about what you learn on the way.”

Social media has convinced us that yoga= contortionism. Yoga is truly about learning to breathe in tandem with our bodies. Classes will move slowly and offer variations of poses. If it’s your first class, let the teacher know and be sure to ask any questions you have!

I have an injury, can I still do yoga?

Maybe! Probably!

Yoga should never substitute for medical advice, please consult your doctor before beginning. That said, there will be LOTS of options to make the poses accessible for all bodies. Being able to get up and down from the ground is really the only prerequisite to Planetarium Yoga classes.

Please inform your instructor before class of any injuries.

Yoga is for everybody and it is for every body.

Will I get dizzy?

Planetarium Yoga classes are intentionally designed with gentle, slow flows and restorative poses that prioritize grounding and relaxation. You'll find the pace soothing and mindful, helping to prevent any sense of dizziness. Throughout the class, we encourage participants to listen to their bodies and offer options like coming into Child's Pose or Stargazer (lying on the back) whenever needed. Whether you prefer to move gently or stay in a resting pose throughout the session, our classes are crafted to accommodate your comfort and well-being
